The renewed main transmission system for electrical energy in the Southwest will continue to rely on on above-ground transmission lines, while some areas will require underground cables – thereby reducing the environmental effect of the project.

 

  • New high voltage lines in the main transmission system, in total of 152 km of overhead transmission lines and 19 km of renewed lines.
  • New connections for major energy users and power plants by the main transmission system, a total of 35 km of power lines and 54 km of high-voltage underground cables.
  • Current high voltage lines torn down and removed, a total of 97 km of lines.
  • New substations will rise on Hellisheidi, Sandskeidi, Hrauntungur to the south of Hafnarfjordur, and on Njardvikurheidi.
  • Substation by Raudamelur will be removed.
